Edinburgh Innovations

Upgraded to the latest Craft CMS with Improved UI features

Project overview

Edinburgh Innovations is the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation service—helping researchers, students, and industry partners turn ideas into real-world impact. When we were brought in, the site was running on an outdated version of Craft CMS and had several legacy issues from a previous build.

Our approach

Our first priority was to stabilise the platform. We upgraded the site to Craft CMS 3, renewed all necessary licences, and conducted a full technical audit to identify areas for improvement. Once the core system was secure and up to date, we worked closely with the Edinburgh Innovations team to modernise the user experience and empower their in-house content editors.

Key improvements

CMS upgrade

Upgraded from a legacy build to Craft CMS 3, bringing the site up to modern security and performance standards.

License renewal

Ensured all commercial plugins and CMS licences were up to date and properly configured.

Mega menus

Introduced a structured, user-friendly mega menu system for better navigation and clearer content hierarchy.

Flexible page layouts

Created new content blocks and reusable components, giving editors greater control over how pages are built and displayed.

Ongoing support

We now provide regular maintenance and enhancements, and are currently in the process of upgrading the site to Craft CMS 5 to ensure future stability and scalability.

Results

The website is now a stable, modern platform that can grow with Edinburgh Innovations’ evolving needs. Content editors have more control and flexibility, while users benefit from improved navigation and faster performance. With our continued support, the site remains secure, up to date, and ready for future enhancements.
